The main attraction of this part of Serbia is the Petrovaradin Fortress, which is located on the right bank of the Danube, opposite the center of Novi Sad. It was built in the period from 1692 to 1790, covering an area of 112 acres and has about 16 km of underground tunnels. Today, the fortress is the holding place of the EXIT music festival, which is held annually in early July, since 2001. During the four days of the festival, Petrovaradin Fortress and Novi Sad are visited by between 250,000 and 350,000 young people from all over the world.
